Job Pay Range: YY: $48.530 - $51.440

Target Pay Range/Rate: $51.44 per hour

The Second Judicial District Court is recruiting for a full-time, at-will, Hearing Officer #00054627-23200 position for the Children's Court Juvenile Justice Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Presiding Judge, applicant will provide Hearing Officer services for the Juvenile Justice Center. Applicant will be expected to create and recommend policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and to ensure procedural consistency and compliance with laws and Supreme Court Rules. Finalist(s) may be subject to criminal background checks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The following functions are representative of the work environment and physical demands an employee may expect to encounter in performing the tasks assigned to this job. Work is performed in an office and court setting. Work is performed in an often fast-paced and stressful work environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy. The employee may be exposed to hostile or violent situations that may arise when dealing with individuals involved or associated with court cases, disturbing or hazardous court exhibits and contagious health conditions. Frequent exposure to unpleasant situations when interviewing defendants who are experiencing significant stress, are mentally unstable, hostile, intoxicated, or have infectious diseases. The employee must regularly interact positively with coworkers, clients and the public; work under severe time constraints and meet multiple demands from several people. The work requires prolonged use of computers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform repetitious hand, arm and finger motions as well as use manual/finger dexterity, sit for long periods of time, stand and walk often; kneel and stoop; and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move, push, pull or carry up to 40 pounds. Overtime may be required. Travel may be required. A valid drivers’ license may be required. The employee may be exposed to fluctuating outdoor and building temperatures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, New Mexico licensed attorney in good standing.
  • Education Substitution: None.
  • Experience: Minimum of (5) five years of experience in the practice of law, with at least 20% of practice having been in family law or domestic relations matters.
  • Experience Substitution: None.
  • Extensive knowledge of New Mexico and federal case law, constitution and statutes; court rules, policies, and procedures; manual and computer legal research and analysis.
  • A work record of dependability and reliability, attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with the use of New Mexico Children's Code, Mental Health Code and related statutory laws and regulations. Familiarity with excel. Bi-lingual Spanish/English encouraged to apply.
